Carbon UD tapes

Carbon UD tapes or uni-directional carbon tapes are tapes where the carbon is predominantly in the direction of the warp to strengthen the laminate specifically in this direction. Carbon is characterised by providing high stiffness, tensile strength and compressive strength at low weight. In addition, carbon provides slight expansion when heated and is electrically conductive. Carbon UD tapes are available from 125 g to 1200 g/m² in widths from 1.5 cm to 25 cm. Romar-Voss Composites' product range includes carbon UD tape TCU 330 as standard. This is a 330 g/m² plain weave fabric. Other versions are available on request.

Application

The best results with carbon UD tapes are achieved when processed with an epoxy resin. Carbon UD tapes are used for products where high stiffness and tensile strength need to be combined with compressive strength and low weight.
