PET polyester resins
Polyester resins formulated from recycled PET materials fall into the category of sustainable (i.e. green) resins. PET is a thermoplastic polyester with excellent mechanical properties that is mainly used for food and beverage packaging. Most are familiar with the well-known PET bottle. If PET bottles are thoroughly cleaned and re-melted, the material is fully recyclable.
The use of recycled PET materials improves the terephthalic functionality of a polyester resin. INEOS Composites has conducted extensive research to develop a collection of unsaturated polyester resins based on recycled PET materials. The focus here is on the environment, cost and retaining the material's strong technical properties. With success! Each INEOS drum of PET-based recycled resin (220 kg) contains an average of 1,800 recycled plastic bottles.
